Sandra Wickham IFBB Fitness Pro

How did you get interested in bodybuilding/working out?

I used to run track in high school, we trained weights in the off season. I absolutely fell in love with it. I also noticed that alot of the time it was me and a gym full of men...I liked that!

How was your first show like, any interesting experiences?

I competed in my first show when I was backpacking overseas in Australia. I did a lot of moving around the country, but settled in Brisbane for a bit. The owner of the gym I was training at suggested I do the fitness show coming up in only 5 weeks! It was crazy! I was literally living out of a backpack, staying in a hostel, cooking my eggs in the common room...everyone at the gym was super, they helped me with my diet and gave me tons of encouragement. I managed to place 2nd!

What do you like and dislike about competing?

I love the challenge of the fitness routine. I have no gymnastics or dance background, so every new trick I learn is such a feat! I am not a big fan of the dieting of course, but after all this time it gets to be almost normal.

What are your future goals in this industry?

I would love to make it to the Olympia one day! We train girls at the Provincial and National level right now, I'd love for some of them to earn their Pro Cards!

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Definitely pursuing my writing, I am an English major, I have always loved writing (wrote my first "novel" when I was nine years old!) and I would love to be working on my third or fourth best seller by then! I will continue to compete as long as I can and then continue to train others. Maybe in ten years we'll still be promoting our show that we just started up this year as well.

Please tell us something special about you that most people wouldn't know?

I love Sundays where I get to combine fitness, teaching new athletes, hanging with my mom and working on my writing. I teach a group class routine conditiong class for fitness competitors, then I get to spend the rest of the afternoon and evening with my mom for what we call "arts day". We get together, we throw on some inspirational music, maybe do a few creative journal entries or other exercises, and then she works on her water colour painting and I work on my writing. It's the best day of the week!

Any additional notes? People you would like to thank?

I would like to thank my mom, who's been so supportive, flying around the country to see me compete and always there to lend a hand with the tanning or whatever I needed. Big thanks to my sponsors, PVL Nutrients who are amazing supporters of our sport, and of course thanks to Ross Webb, the heart and soul of my life. Without him I would not be where I am today.
