Tonia Williams IFBB Bodybuilding Pro

How did you get interested in bodybuilding/working out?

It started right out of high school... I started teaching aerobics and slowly found my way to the weight room. I met some people there that taught me alot about training and urged me to compete.

What was your first show like, any interesting experiences?

hehe - I weighed 102 lbs!! I'm a born competitor and stage ham, so I absolutely love being on stage!!! I've danced most my life and the stage brings out the life in me.

What do you like and dislike about competing?

How much time do you have? J/K What I like the most is motivating others. If I can motivate someone to start training, or do their first show, or strive for something greater than I've made my contribution and that brings me the greatest satisfaction. What I DON'T like about competing is the inconsistency within the NPC/IFBB. What the NPC/IFBB doesn't realize is that they hold the cards as far as whether or not we are marketed into the industry. They can control who wins, they can control who gets coverage and contracts, etc, etc.... my goal is to get more female judges on the panel and start giving the competitors the respect they deserve.

What are your future goals in this industry?

Honestly, I take each day as it comes... and you're asking me this as I'm 22 weeks into a diet, preparing for the O. So right now, I'm not sure. Like I said above, I'd like to get more involved in judging so we can change how things are being handled. I also enjoy promoting shows which I currently do with my husband.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Besides, having another child, I hope to still be training, maybe not competing, but definitely training and enjoying life.

Please tell us something special about you that most people wouldn't know?

hmmm.... secrets.... there are so many! hehe I think the most special thing about me is my daughter... she is a spitt'n image of me and future fitness star. She's been a competitive dancer since the age of 3 and she is my soul motivation in life.

Any additional notes? People you would like to thank?

Oh yes... there are so many key people in my life. People that without I couldn't do what I do... first - my best friend Jen - my sounding board - I love her to death. Second, my super support team... Erin, Andrea, Joe, Gabe, Leah, Phil, Deb, Lori, these people help more than they know!!! And finally, my husband... who without his knowledge I would not be where I am, and without his support I couldn't not dedicate as much time as I do to this sport and, without his love, life wouldn't be the same.
