Kelly Burke Jennings NPC Bodybuilding

How did you get interested in bodybuilding/working out?

I have been an athlete all of my life and have followed bodybuilding/fitness for years. I was always interested, but it wasn't until my last 2 years of college that I started competing.

What was your first show like, any interesting experiences?

My first show was thrilling. I was so nervous, but once I got on stage everything just flowed and felt so right. >From there I was hooked!

What do you like and dislike about competing?

Likes: the challenge of dieting and training to get into competition shape. Dislikes: the subjectiveness of the sport.

What are your future goals in this industry?

I would love to turn pro! I love bodybuilding and want to do everything I possibly can to promote the sport and have a positive influence on the fans. For now, I want to work on optimizing my physique to the fullest of my genetic potential!

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Raising children and still competing!! I would also like to be a role model for younger women, letting them know that being physically strong and muscular doesn't mean your not feminine!

Please tell us something special about you that most people wouldn't know?

In my spare time I am busy organizing the Race for Breath Lung Cancer 5K Run/Walk. www.raceforbreath.active.com . My mom passed away from lung cancer in March of 2004. She and I were active in a number of cancer walks and fundraisers--the Avon Breast Cancer 3Day Walk, the European AIDS Ride, the Lance Armstrong Tour of Hope, and others. After Mom passed away, it was important to me to continue this tradition, but now I was focused on lung cancer because I had learned first hand what a devastating disease it is. I looked online for events specifically for lung cancer and found only one. Saddened by this result, and perhaps a little angry, I decided I could make a difference! I would organize my own event that would not only raise lung cancer awareness, but would honor my Mom!

Any additional notes? People you would like to thank?

A BIG thanks to my wonderful husband Sam. He is my biggest supporter and I couldn't do all of this without him. Many thanks to my family and friends whom have stuck by me throughout my journeys in life! A Huge thanks to Big Al for his help with dieting and unconditional support.
