Journey to Jr Nationals
By: Misty Green
First, I want to say what a great weekend! I also want to congratulate each and every one of the awesome competitors. It is such an amazing accomplishment to be able to compete at the national level. I’m not sure if many stop and think about what a great job they have done, the challenges and obstacles they have overcome to get to a national stage. So, I definitely wanted to take the time to say way to go every one!!!
With that being said, my journey for Jr Nationals started immediately after Jr USA’s. After seeing pictures of myself and speaking with my trainer, Nick Varga of eNVy Fitness, we decided I need to revamp a few things. We both agreed I came in a little to thick in the legs and just a little to soft for my particular physique. It was my first show for this year and I knew to expect that I would need to make changes. We cut my carbs, kept my chest, arms & shoulder workouts the same but made changes to my leg workouts.
Going into Jr Nationals I couldn’t have been happier with how I prepared myself for this show. I just felt like I was completely in my zone. I knew I was where I wanted to be for this show and Nick, my trainer, couldn’t have been happier with the changes I had made in 6 weeks. After seeing pictures, I was amazed at my progress between the two shows. To me, all the hard work was worth it. I honestly could not have been happier with myself.
From the moment I checked in for the show until the morning I left, I was showered with so much support and encouragement. This is one thing I just love about this industry. Being able to meet so many wonderful people and making lifelong friends. It’s always so nice to be able to see people I enjoy getting to know from show to show.
I was so excited about Jr Nationals because it was my 1st national show last year and this show is run so smoothly. I never feel stressed when I get there and they always let us know what’s going on and when we need to be ready. I just feel very relaxed and at ease which enables me to just have fun with everybody. I will be honest and say that I did feel somewhat overwhelmed by all the remarks I was getting from so many people, those I knew and those I didn’t know. It was all positive and everyone was being so supportive but I know that when it’s my time, it will be my time. Being part of this world, one has to know, it’s a subjective industry and what the judges look for can sometimes vary from show to show. I, along with every competitor out there, just have to know to come in with what we feel is best for our individual bodies. And to walk away with a positive experience and to learn as we go.
I am so unbelievably excited about Team Universe. I hear that Mr. Weinberger runs a very smooth show as well, which is nice for us competitors to be able to relax. It will be my first time competing at this show and in NYC. I have kept my diet and training that same as it was before Jr Nationals and just want to come in being consistent with my physique. I can’t wait to see every one there. I look forward to stepping on stage and just having a great time with everybody during the show and afterwards! Good luck everybody and see you in New York City!!!
