20 Questions with Cover Model Julie Bezerra
1) Please introduce yourself? What makes you special? Who is Julie Bezerra?
I am a simple lady who has a big dreams to help people reach their health and fitness goals. I believe what make me special is the feeling, the feeling about motivation & passion.
2) Please tell us a bit about your family, friends and surroundings?
I have a big family from Brazil, but I also have one American family ( boyfriend’s family). I love to make friends, wherever I go I meet people. It’s very important to me being around people.
3) How did you start competing in wellness?
I always wanted to compete in wellness, but honestly I didn’t have the discipline to have an athlete life. I started to compete in wellness in 2020 at the Arnold Classic .
4) What is your personal policy (not what the judges want) about conditioning and muscularity when coming into a show? Soft or hard?
Depends on the show. For wellness, it’s the right balance of both that portrays the look that I want.
5) What is your idea of what judges want in a wellness competitor? Do you think judges are clear enough with competitors about how they want you on stage? It seems in Europe they are very clear unlike in the USA and now in Canada things are confusing.
Ultimately, I think the judges are still trying to distinguish what they are looking for in a wellness competitor in United States, Where the division is so new. I believe as wellness competitions move forward, the competitors will dictate what the judges like by the package they bring to stage.
6) For the next shows what do you think you need to work on physique-wise/conditioning-wise? If anything!
I think I should work on making my waste smaller, less muscularity & more confidence on stage.
7) What is your typical training routine in the gym (per day, include sets and reps!) How much cardio do you do before a show?
I typically do 3 to 4 sets for big body parts and 2 to 3 sets for smaller body parts. I keep the reps between 12 and 15 reps with short rest periods. When I get ready for a competition, I do 30 to 40 minutes of cardio 5 to 6 days per week
8) What is your pre-contest diet? (per day, 1 week before the show)
I usually cut the quantity of carbohydrates and I introduce more good fats.
9) How do you go about dropping your water before the day of the show? How much water do you drink the day of the show. Please be specific.
I drink a lot of water. Only one day before the show I reduce my water intake. I drink 500 ml of water.
10) What motivates you to train/diet and compete? Are there any competitors you looked up to?
What motivates me is the same passion as Arnold & Joe Weider about bodybuilding. To train hard & achieve what they believes. My favorite wellness competitor is Angela Borges. I would like to have her body & booty.
11) Please tell us an interesting experience you had at a show recently, be it a fun thing or something rather not so fun?
It was fun meeting different people who travel to compete during backstage.
12) What is your personal opinion about the figure, fitness, bodybuilding industry we are in? Anything you would like to see changed?
Yeah. Absolutely. I think to understand the sport is very important. Respect about the judge’s decisions. Sometimes it’s hard for us as an athlete understand it, because we train very hard to achieve our goals. But We always learn about how we can do better.
13) What has been your hardest challenge to overcome either in your personal life or competing career?
The hardest challenge for me was to overcome my shyness and get on stage in front of people.
14) Did you make any changes to your contest prep for your last show? Water intake, carbing up, etc...
I cut my carbohydrates and water intake very low several days out before the show basically I introduced a new protocol.
15) What do you think of bikini division?
Bikini division is amazing. I respect and love all the different divisions.
16) What are your favorite foods to eat right after you compete on a Saturday night?
I love eating cheesecake with my boyfriend.
17) Please tell us about how you were raised and did you have any interesting experiences while growing up?
I was raised by an amazing family that taught me good morals and I had the opportunity to grow up in Brazil one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
18) Do you have an athletic background? Gymnastics, soccer, volleyball or what?
I was ballet dancer for 8 years. I decide to change to lift weights. That has been a huge passion of mine. I’ve been doing different types of sports all my life ( capoeira, muay Thai, surf & others).
19) What is a typical day in the life of Julie Bezerra? From waking up to until going to bed?
Typical day: work with my clients at the gym, eat my meals, and than repeat the process in the afternoon.
20) What is your current occupation? Please tell us more about it, what do you specifically do in your job?
I am personal trainer, nutritionist & studying for coaching. I also sell clothes from Brazil.
