Sandy Grant IFBB Fitness Pro

How did you get interested in bodybuilding/working out?

It all started it high school when I took weight training and was on the Dance/Drill Team and then it just continued on from there. I watched the Fitness America & Aerobics competitions and read all the magazines that featured the Bodybuilders and Fitness Athletes and I knew one day I wanted to compete. So after high school I started working out regularly to stay fit and healthy and then I decided that I really did want to take it to the next level. My now husband, who also was my personal trainer then, took me to my first Fitness Competition, the Emerald Cup, April of 1999. So then 5 months later I competed in my first Fitness Competition and was hooked from that point on.

What was your first show like, any interesting experiences?

I cant believe how fast it came and went. I had no clue what to expect and just really went through the motions that day on stage, but it will always be memorable. Oh yeah, I also pulled my left hamstring in the splits during the middle of my routine. I finished my routine, but boy did it hurt. Also, one week after my first show I was scheduled to compete at the 1999 Ironman Fitness Show (Craig Productions), even though my hamstring was injured. I couldn't fully practice my routine or train my legs during the week of the show, but everything turned out great anyway. I ended up winning the show!! That's a memorable show too

What do you like and dislike about competing?

I love the feeling being out there on stage performing, its an exhilarating feeling. I think the dieting is the hardest part, I LOVE to eat!

What are your future goals in this industry?

Well, first of all I would love to make it in the top 3 of a Pro Fitness Show in 2005 and then move up from there. Also, I would like to keep inspiring others to live a healthy & fit lifestyle.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

I would love to have a family & my husband & I own a gym.

Please tell us something special about you that most people wouldn't know?

I am a shy person and pretty much keep to myself, but when I get to know you I cant shut up!

Any additional notes? People you would like to thank?

I have so many people, trainers, nutritionists, friends & family to thank that have supported me and helped me to get where I am today. But, most of all I thank my husband who trains with me at 4:30am every morning & puts up with me during my dieting phases and my sister who is my best friend and who is with me every step of the way while preparing for my shows and most importantly, I thank our Lord who has blessed me with my abilities and gives me the strength to go on everyday! " Keep your Faith Muscles Strong".
