Ask Misty By Misty Green

Breast Augmentation
I am debating on breast augmentation.  I am fairly small chested and feel that if I enlarged my breasts I would have better balance.  I see more and more girls that compete undergo breast augmentation.  What are your thoughts on this issue?  Would having a larger chest help me to place higher?  Is it necessary for me to move forward and up in my fitness career?
Vanessa, Florida

Vanessa, I think you should make a decision based on what you want for yourself.  Not want you think someone else wants for you.  And also not because you feel pressured by what seems to be the norm.  If breast augmentation is something you have thought long and hard about.  Then do your research and make an educated decision.  There are so many resources on the web to help you go about deciding if this is something for you.  Dina Al Sabah wrote a great article a while back for Oxygen magazine.

(from her website fitdina.com).  Don’t be afraid to ask around.  If there are people you know or meet, ask them about their experience.  Knowing as much information as possible before you undergo anything major will only help you in your decision process.  Personally, I don’t think having larger or smaller breasts will make a difference in your placing.  There are many top competitors of varying sizes.  Your placing is about the overall package you bring to the table and what the judges are looking for on that particular day.  It’s all about personal preference: Do you like your current look? Would you prefer to have larger breasts?  Ask yourself, what do I prefer?  Whatever you decide, make sure it something you truly want for yourself.  You are the one that has to be happy with it for the rest of your life.
