2006 Canadian Bodybuilding Nationals by Juan Carlos Lopez

Heather King

The cold and dreary Saskatoon was the chosen place for Bodybuilding Nationals. Announcing a large expo with the event made things seem a lot better. The weather was miserable, light rain and freezing temperatures of 30-35F chilled the show weekend. Special thanks go to Tammie Tenecky who made sure HardFitness was on time and took care of important details. Its great to have people like this that help the fitness industry.

On to the show it would be a good show, last year Autumn Raby took the show with ease. The weigh-ins had only a few FBBs and some competed in different classes that they had originally targeted. Everyone's eyes were on Nadia Nardi, Jody Wald and Nicole Ball. Nicole Ball was clearly the most ripped at weigh-ins so it could be again the middleweight who could take the overall.

Friday night was on and the masters and juniors would compete and get their awards right there. Ellen Partnoy took the masters with ease, Josee St-Onge looked very good as well but took 4th surprisingly. Krystan Bellows was the only junior to compete and won for sure. Saturday came around and lightweights and Heather King looked the best. She took her class with great conditioning even if a bit small. Heather can probably taken on middleweights next year. Shannon Holman a bit stringy but with good lines took second. Notable was Leah Berti at only 22yrs old competing in very good shape.

Nicole Ball

Middleweights was all for Nicole Ball, shredded, ripped, better than many Olympia competitors as far as conditioning. Still small but for sure looked the best on stage that day. Very feminine looks and would be someone that could compete at the Olympia in a year or two. In second the young Cindy Phillips (about 23 yrs old) showed what a great future she has. Great symmetry and full muscles. Can probably do heavyweights next year. Ellen Partnoy took third and Nadia Nardi took 4th as she had mentioned the past weeks had been hard due to sickness, seems her body didn't drop as much water as she wanted. Michelle Saunders took 5th and she can probably do heavy's next year if she wished to add more size.

Pamela Howard

The heavy's was hard to judge as Pam Howard had great size and clearly the shape. But in second was Lyris Cappelle who was well conditioned and in third was Janeen Lankowski who didn't get down to middleweights at weigh-ins. Josee St-Onge was now 4th and Jody Wald who had taken second last year in this class took 5th. Pam Howard had clearly changed from last year and this year she redeemed herself. Carmen Tocheniuk who took lightweights in 2005 now was totally different as she was a heavyweight and placed 7 of 9 competitors.
Overall for Nicole Ball and there was nothing to dispute, good luck to her in the pro ranks.
