There are times that you can write more and more about anything. And the Olympia and Canadian BB Nationals brought out more things to talk about. Being such a busy month October should be a lot less busy and almost coming to an end of the competition year.

Hubris

For those unfamiliar with the word you can look it up in your favorite Thesaurus. Some fitness photographers or people in general might end up doing this, you know who you are if you are reading this. Ancient Greece defined this as doing or saying things that will deem others inferior while you would look superior. Nowadays it is confined to arrogance and extreme self-confidence. This in turn would cause someone to make mistakes because of this. Think about sports teams that were favorites before a Super Bowl for example. They end up loosing by many points and all they can say at the end is that they were over-confident and wish they had could replay the game again. The outcome would be different but at times you only have one chance.

Canadian BB Nationals and the Olympia were two clear examples of this. Some FBBs were top 3 last year in their class and now only shadows of what they once had been. Some of them over-confident stopped listening to their trainers, others didn't diet as hard as they thought as they could pull it off. At the Olympia some competitors didn't show up in shape and others did, one in particular executed her quarter turns in a unorthodox way and wore unusual cuts in her suits. The quarter turns upset the rest of competitors and a portion of the fitness industry. Why was this done? If arrogance was the reason for this, then their placing suffered because of the antics. I personally encourage thinking outside the box and have seen that if done correctly will yield favorable results. Great sports players for example have done this and it has made them memorable among the others. The question is when, where and how, if done out of context then it will only push you to your downfall.
